Pre-nuptial and Pre-registration Agreements
A pre-nuptial agreement is a formal written agreement made between two people in contemplation of their forthcoming marriage.
It sets out what should happen to the assets and debts of each partner accumulated before or during the marriage should the partners divorce or separate. It can also indicate who will commence divorce proceedings. Furthermore, if you are contemplating marriage and you have dependent relatives or children from a previous marriage, you may well want to ensure that their interests and well-being are not jeopardised on divorce. By stating your financial intentions in a prenuptial agreement you have some latitude to protect your children and dependants.
Pre-registration agreements are similar to pre-nuptial agreements, but are between people who are either about to, or already have, entered into a civil partnership.
