Visitors
If you are thinking about visiting friends or family or holiday in the UK for up to six months, you can apply as a Visitor. Visa nationals will need to apply at the British Embassy or British High Commission in their country of origin to obtain entry clearance before arriving in the UK.
You may also be able to apply as a Medical Visitor, Marriage Visitor, Academic Visitor or Business Visitor. The Immigration Rules for Visitors were amended in September 2007, making it a requirement for anyone who wishes to study in the UK for six months or less to apply as a Student Visitor.
You will need to demonstrate an intention to return home at the end of your stay, which is where many people experience difficulties. In addition, an adverse immigration history may affect the chances of a successful application under this category.
