Civil Partnerships

Ending your civil partnership

The breakdown of a civil partnership is an emotional time and the prospect of a separation or dissolution action can be daunting but the process need not be difficult with the right professional advice. The legal formality of dissolving the partnership is a relatively straightforward process. What is often more complicated is sorting out the practical issues associated with the dissolution such as where each person will live, who gets what and arrangements for any children.

Our specialists will guide you through the process, steer you clear of the legal pitfalls and offer sensible and independent advice.

All our family law solicitors are members of Resolution – a specialist family law association - ensuring that we are committed to dealing with your dissolution in as non-confrontational and professional manner as possible.

To start dissolution proceedings you must have been married for at least one year.

We are experienced in advising on the legal implications of entering into a civil partnership and the financial consequences of its dissolution. The process of dissolution is similar to divorce; however, there is no fact of adultery.

If you would prefer to separate instead of starting dissolution proceedings or have separated within the first year after registering your Civil Partnership, then we can help you formalise the separation in an agreement.
