Mediation
Mediation is an alternative to the traditional Court process. Mediators are trained to help people resolve disputes. Using Mediation can help you to find ways to communicate with each other.
It is a process by which couples negotiate face to face about the arrangements for the future with the help of a neutral third party, a mediator. It can provide a safe place to enable you to try and reconcile your differences. It can be a way of helping you to reach an agreement which takes account of all your needs, concerns and interests. It is a confidential process. Mediation is voluntary, although the Courts do encourage people to attend Mediation and would expect you to have attempted Mediation before starting Court proceedings. There are many benefits to Mediation. It can help reduce hostility and improve the chances of an agreement that will last. The process tends to be non-confrontational. It provides the opportunity for you to assess the possibility of reaching an agreement without the restrictions of the Court process. It enables you to control costs and can be cheaper than the Court process. It can also be quicker.
